Our research in India is based in the rural community of Nanakpur, Haryana.
In 2015, we conducted the Surgeons Overseas Assessment of Surgical Need (SOSAS) (855KB PDF) in Nanakpur to determine the burden of surgical disease. We also conducted the Personnel, Infrastructure, Personnel, Equipment, and Supplies (PIPES) survey (286KB PDF) at local health facilities to understand which surgical resources are available to the population.
We aim to target barriers to accessing surgical care through the implementation of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) first responders course, advocacy for Nanakpur’s community health workers, and collaboration with the local government in Haryana. Our activities include:
- Project RISHI (Rural India Social and Health Improvement)
- Surgical & Trauma Capacity Assessments
- AIIMS First Responders Course
