Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death in the United States for people between the ages of 1 and 44 years. First aid from bystanders has been shown to save lives. Bystanders are present at nearly all traumas and are more likely to help when they have some first aid training.
This is even more important on the south side of Chicago, where trauma victims face worse outcomes because of long transport times due to distance from trauma centers.
How NTSI Is Helping
The NTSI team has developed and will host free trauma first responders courses for the general public that will give participants the confidence, knowledge, and skills they need to provide rapid and effective care to trauma victims and empower them to take an active role in caring for those affected by violence.
For information about upcoming sessions, please email TFRC@ntsinitiative.org or call (773) 999-NTSI (6874).
